SUMMARY

As a building designer and draftsperson at The Highgate Group, I had the chance to take on large scale projects designing climbing towers, obstacle courses and many other gym setups starting from the concept, planning, documentation, fabrication and installation. I got so involved in our projects that rock climbing has become one of my passions.

A CHALLENGE

APRIL 2021

I joined Highgate in early 2021 as their new designer and draftsperson at their Northern beaches office. I was excited because the office was located at a walkable distance from a beautiful beach, the perfect balance between work and lifestyle.

Meeting the team was interesting because there was not only very qualified professionals in the construction and architecture area, but also exceptionally talented rock climbers.

Their products and services catalogue is quite long, I spent a couple of months learning about what the business was actually doing. There was a lot more that climbing walls going on. We were taking projects on obstacle courses for kids with special needs, gyms for youth centres, working with army and police on training facilities, designing 12 meters climbing towers, proposing tree ropes courses and canopies, creating climbing gyms for schools and universities, between others.

MULTITASK!

Because it was a small business, my role was covering many different design areas which made it challenging sometimes but fun and exciting because I got to interact with the projects from start to end.

I was in charge of creating the design and documentation for the client's proposals, this was my favourite part because I love 3D modelling and renders, also because it was a creative process.

We were also creating technical drawings of our custom designs to send them to quote to our suppliers.

TECHNICAL DRAWING

Our company was also responsable for the construction and installation of the project, so after the contract was signed I used to make an installation manual for the guys on site.

Highgate also service rope courses and climbing walls, I was involved on this process because sometimes we needed to replace a piece or create a custom solution. I did the drafting for quotation and installation of these pieces.

I also created a DWG and SKP digital catalogue of all their products to make it easier for the person that was replacing me while I was on leave.
